Vendor Guidelines for Vintage Market
The City of Salem in collaboration with The Salem Flea invites artisans/vendors to showcase and sell their work the third Saturday of the month from May-September, 10-5pm, in historic downtown Salem at Derby Square on Front Street. This area of the city was originally built as a market place and continues to be an important public plaza and pedestrian walkway.
The Salem Flea will feature a juried selection of vendors of vintage and up-cycled furniture, vintage clothing, collectibles, antiques, architectural salvage as well as a select number of jewelry, art, and handmade goods by local artisans. All artists regardless of race, gender, belief, national origin, sexual orientation, or physical disabilities are eligible to apply.
• Dates and Times: May 18, June 15, July 20, August 17, September 21 –
10am-5pm (Rain or Shine)
• Vendor Fee Per Event: $70 Salem Resident $80 Non Salem Resident
• All vendors are juried.
• Vendor space is 10 x 10 and a tent is required. Vendors may rent more than one space to create a larger selling area i.e. 10 x20
• Vendors may share space at the market, however all parties must submit applications and be approved. Vendors are not allowed to bring in outside vendors who have not been approved.
• Vendors must provide their own 10 x10 tent, tables, chairs, tents weights(see notes) and display surfaces.
You must have required 30-40lbs tent weights for each tent leg. You will not be allowed to pitch a tent without the required weights! Make sure they are filled completely. We require that weights be firmly fastened to each leg and tethered to the tent frame with bungee cords at the top of each of the four legs. No exceptions. Please help us ensure a safe experience for vendors and patrons alike.
Please arrive at your assigned arrival time 8:00am-later and be punctual. Arrivals are staggered to keep load-in moving. Drive up to your check in location and check in. They will direct you to your site location and local parking. If you need a later arrival please let us know asap. There are no earlier arrivals available.
Vendors may not breakdown before 5 pm. Vendors must break down in place before retrieving your vehicle to load out. Please do not retrieve your vehicle until you are packed up and ready to go. This will be strictly enforced. Premises must be vacated by 6 pm, at which time our permit expires.
You must remove any trash with you upon breaking down, and leave your area free of debris, scraps, price tags, zip ties, cigarette butts or other items. Do not leave sandbags, broken tents, chairs, boxes or other bulky items in the trash bins. You must bring out what you take in. Violators may not be invited to return to the Flea.
There are banks close to the event space for change, Salem Five ATM (on the pedestrian mall on Essex st) and Eastern Bank (on Washington St) are located adjacent. There is no electricity or free WiFi available in the square.
Only service pets will be allowed to stay with a vendor throughout the day.
Please watch your belongings and be very diligent. We have great customers and a friendly crowd, Secure your items, know your inventory. Don't be an easy target. We are not liable for petty theft you are liable for your space.
A vendor may reschedule before paying, without penalty. There are no refunds after payment. If a paid vendor needs to reschedule a paid booking, The Flea will accommodate a request to reschedule, space permitting, no less than 10 days prior to the paid date for a change fee of $25 per rescheduled date. Vendors who cancel or are ‘no-shows’ after making payment understand they are forfeiting their vendor fee and The Flea is under no obligation to secure a replacement vendor or reschedule the vendor's original date.
The weather policy is rain or shine. This means The Flea will be held even if it’s raining. However, The Flea aims to be a pleasant experience for flea-goers and a profitable venue for vendors. If weather is untenable or unsafe--severe or prolonged thunder showers or high winds or flash-flooding--The Flea will be canceled. The Flea promoter will then work with vendors to re-book the date canceled by The Flea, and if it's not possible to re-book a date, the vendor forfeits the fee for the canceled day.
Publicity: Paid vendors will be promoted on www.thesalemflea.com, Instagram @thesalemflea and Facebook page. Use the hashtag #thesalemflea to increase publicity to the event. This is in addition to our advertising campaign.
Sales Tax/Permits: All vendors are responsible for abiding by all tax laws, including sales tax collection, licenses, permits or insurance as required by law to conduct your business. The Salem Flea is not responsible for collecting sales tax for vendors from customers. Sales tax is required to be sent to Massachusetts State Office of Taxation.

We take into careful consideration product variety, originality and quality of goods to provide a variety of high quality vendors for each market.
Applicants accepted to sell at The Salem Flea will be notified by email as soon as possible. An invoice and vendor agreement for market space will also be sent via email and payment must be made by a date specified on the notice of acceptance.
